- Last identification: Sandybayeva S.K., Zayadan B.K., Akmukhanova N.R., 2023.
- Method of obtainment: Isolated from an enrichment culture obtained from a natural sample by sequential microbiological streaking.
- Genetic features: Wild type (WT)
- Culture state: Axenic culture.
Morphology and Structure
Cell size: predominantly 2–5 µm; trichome diameter 3.5–4.0 µm; heterocysts 5–6 µm; akinetes (spores) 7–8 µm. Cell organization: filamentous, colonial cyanobacterium; trichomes are tightly coiled and densely intertwined, forming filamentous clumps (aggregates) in liquid culture. Flagella: absent.
Cultivation
- Nutrient medium: liquid BG-11 medium without nitrogen (CN=0)
- Temperature: 28 ± 2 °C
- Light intensity: 53 µmol photons/m²/s
- Photoperiod: 16:8 h (light/dark)
- pH: 7.5
- Humidity: approximately 60%.
Physiological Characteristics
mesophile
Long-term Preservation Conditions
maintained in liquid nitrogen-free BG-11 medium at room temperature and subcultured every 2–3 months. Lyophilized biomass is stored at +4 °C under airtight conditions, protected from moisture, light, and oxygen, with a storage life of 1–3 years.
Deposition Information
Deposited in 2023 in the "Republican Collection of Microorganisms" of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Collection number: RKM 1061.
Field of Application
Fundamental research and biotechnology. The strain is a promising source of the bioactive secondary metabolite Nostocyclamide, which has potential application as a natural algicide against microalgae.
